You probably want to decide if you prefer to stay downtown with all the cute shops and restaurants that you can walk to and then you can drive out to the beaches.  Or would you rather stay out near the beach where it is more quiet and then drive into town for dinner, shopping etc..  IT's such a beautiful place and super family friendly.
