We’re considering a trip to one of these over winter break. DH is more interested in PR, kids want Florida. I prefer Florida, mainly because I had a close friend who drowned in PR while vacationing at one of the big resorts. I know this may not be rational but it was such a tragedy. I understand the water in PR can be very rough especially in the winter and drownings are not that uncommon. Does anyone know if there are certain areas of the island that are calmer (and good places to stay in those locations)? Would love thoughts on the Keys as well! Thanks.
Keys special Key West really does not have great beaches. It is fairly rocky, small and more of an adult place with night life like New Orleans French quarter. December should be fairly warm but you could get a cold front(should be okay in December). Puerto Rico is fairly large island with great beaches. The north east has rougher surf, has more rain as the trade winds push up against the mountains. It also has most of the tourist. The south west is sunny, dry, with generally calm surf and less tourist. Lots of great snorkeling around the island. San Juan is fun and interesting. Lots more stuff to do with kids.
