My mom was there recently. She had brain cancer. The care was okay. The nurse tech or whatever they are called was not extremely sensitive to the fear and anxiety my mom had as a result of her brain tumor. She was dying. Despite this, they have to go through their motions unless you are right there to stop them. For instance, they put her in a hoyer lift to weigh her one day and she was extremely confused and terrified. Why did they need to weigh an 80-something-year-old dying of brain cancer who was eating every day and was also experiencing a terrifying loss of balance? It's part of their checklist. They took two weeks to put a rail on one side of her bed after we asked and after the palliative care doctor ordered it because of regulations against "restraining seniors." The PT moved her to a chair in her room and left her until she was calling out for help. Lots of other little things like this happened. She was only there for three weeks and I was there at some point every day. Also, they did not tell us that we would be responsible for securing a private ambulance transport when she was discharged. We didn't object to doing it, but didn't know we were supposed to contact services ourselves and set that up. We had to cold call places until we found someone that would go there. My mom couldn't go in our car. Asbury provides adequate care. They seem to take the proper precautions. It's still a shitty place to be by yourself if you are old and infirm. It sucked.
