WOW. So many rapes (including in an elementary school!), sexual assaults and assault & batteries. I had no idea.
My point is: who cares about the bias incidents (swastika drawn on a desk, for example, like in my kid's high school) when there is far worse going on!!! It's as if everyone is comfortable talking about that, but no one is comfortable talking about the truly disturbing, trauma-inducing attacks.
Swastika's on desks is very traumatic for Jewish families. Some of us lost our grandparents and great-grandparents in the holocaust. It's still very real for us. None of this is a surprise. What is a surprise to me is how much denial there is and having "no idea." Are you really that checked out?
PP you replied to. No, don't give me that crap. I'm European and I experienced Holocaust teaching in my school in graphic, first person descriptions that Americans can't imagine. The Holocaust is as real to me as it is to you. And don't give me that crap about having no idea about the rest! All I hear about these days is bias incidents, vaping in the bathroom, and occasionally kids disrespecting teachers and bringing (not using) weapons to school. Had you hear about the rapes in MCPS in that time period? The only one that made the news some years ago was the horrible brooming at Damascus HS, because the school did its best to cover it up, but the parents called the police. Do you understand the difference between seeing a swastika painted on a desk, or students vaping in the bathroom, with an actual rape or battery????? Can you please step out of your very natural desire to defend the memory of the Holocaust and acknowledge there is a difference between an aggression that is not on your child's physical person, and aggression that most definitely is? If you don't, we really don't operate in the same value system.
