"Born & Raised a Democrat's Democrat. It was just over 22 years ago, when this future School Board member was born at Calvert Memorial Hospital in Prince Frederick, Maryland. In the intervening years, my parents became divorced and our family moved around a lot.

I've been a Northern Virginian since my dad moved us to Culpeper in 2004. My mom eventually settled down in the Shenandoah Valley community of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia. This split upbringing, with West Virginia and NoVA roots, led me to become very familiar with US-522, the highway that connects the two towns. In 2018, I got my high school diploma in Berkeley Springs and began studies at American University in the District.

Growing up, we didn't have it easy. I benefited at times from free and reduced-price school meals, SNAP (that's the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program, AKA "food stamps"), Medicaid, you name it. I went to college on the Pell Grant and benefited from food pantries throughout my time there. That's why I'm putting free school meals and food equity food front and center in this campaign. It comes from a place inside the heart, and that's a fundamentally different perspective than has existed on the School Board."

Bio from website: "I was born and raised in Washington, D.C. and have lived in Arlington for nine years. I graduated from Brown University, where I majored in public policy and played volleyball. I also spent a semester at Bank Street College of Education and student-taught second grade.

I earned my law degree at UVA Law, where I met my husband, Andy. We live with our three children in the Green Valley neighborhood. My mom, Barrett class of ’62, Kenmore ‘65, and Wakefield ‘69, still lives in the area.

I’ve been an APS parent since 2015. I was a founding member of the Drew PTA in 2019 and still serve as Social Media Chair, am involved with the Montessori Public School of Arlington PTA, and serve as site liaison for the Drew/Green Valley Girls on the Run team. I’m a member of the Early Childhood Education Committee for the Advisory Council on Teaching & Learning. I volunteer as a Precinct Captain for the Arlington Democrats and spent time last fall knocking doors and poll greeting to elect local Democrats. I’m also a member of Green Valley Civic Association’s Executive Committee and our delegate to the Civic Federation.

In my professional life as a lawyer, I devote substantial time to volunteer pro bono work. I currently represent Planned Parenthood and litigate abortion rights in federal court, and I’ve mentored younger lawyers in housing rights cases and parole proceedings."
