I am the OP. I am referring to the GT test that was given in two parts. I don't expect to hear about the Terra Nova as I thought that it shows how well the teachers are testing to test rather than if your kid is gifted or not and I don't think we get individual results (if we do, let me know). The GT test determines if you kid can attend a magnet program. Truthfully, the main reason I wanted to know if so I can be prepared for a conversation to have with my son. He has 3rd grade friends who met the criteria to go to the magnet program and chose to stay our our E.S. and his best friend is freakishly smart so I am confident that he will as well. While my son is smart as well, he is very scatter brained (his head is always in the clouds) and doesn't always test well due to not carefully reading directions. Whether or not I feel my son is gifted, I know for a fact that he is absolutely POSITIVE that he will also meet the criteria and if he doesn't I have to figure out a nice way to let him down as I know him well and he will really beat himself up over it. I really hope upon hope that I don't need to have the conversation, but want to be prepared none the less.
I think you are mistaken. Terra Nova is an achievement test, not a proficiency test. InView is administered as part of Terra Nova and measures cognitive ability. Letter from Starr dated May 2012 indicating that TN2 results will be sent home. http://montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/sharedaccountability/testing/PDFs/TN2/May2012/TerraNova%20Second%20edition%20Letter%20to%20Parents%20(English).pdf FAQ (dated Spring 2009) about TN2: http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/sharedaccountability/testing/PDFs/TN2/May09/Parent%20Score%20Interpretation%20FAQ%202009.pdf As other posters have commented, this is NOT the test for HGC (which is the program at the elementary-school level) in MCPS.
