DC is interested in participating in the USACO contests in HS next year. They're currently in MS and only know Python. Any advice about the best way to prepare them for this, like online summer camps etc?
You can start here: usaco.guide
I may sign them up for an introductory course in Java in the Spring. It shouldn't be that hard coming from Python but seems to be a necessary step since Python is discouraged for these contests.
Actually, after looking at the guide, I may have them stick with Python initially since that should suffice for Bronze and even Silver problems. They will likely be proficient in Java by the 9th or 10th grade which will allow them to progress if they're into it. The guide looks great; nevertheless, I wish there were a course for it that would provide routine and structure. I'm capable of teaching it myself if needed. Just find there's more resistance when I'm the tutor. Anyway, thanks for the link!
