And also keep in mind that your father may be processing his own trauma. He was denied the bond of parenthood with you but had the weight of worrying as a parent as well. Give both yourself and him some grace. Even if you had a close, continuous relationship this would be hard because it's just a hard situation to have a seriously ill child.
