8th: Geometry 9th: Algebra 2 10th: Precalculus 11th: Calc AB or BC 12th: AP Stats or Multivariable or another course One thing I'm not sure about is if all middle schools offer Geometry or if some require online or travel to the high school. That would be my biggest worry. Memorization really kicks up in Precalculus and Calculus, along with depth of problems.
Is the bolded above for AP? If so, what is the equivalent in IB?
IB is IB Math ANL&APP HL 2. I have read that kids cannot take this until they are seniors so they would take another math class in their Junior year but I am not certain that is the case.
A child taking Alg 1 in 7th grade on an IB track can take: 9th: Algebra 2 10th: IB Analysis or IB Applications 1 11th: IB Analysis or IB Applications 2 (either HL or SL) 12th: Multivariable or another course through DE OR 9th: Algebra 2 10th: AP Stats or Precalc (if offered) 11th: IB Analysis or IB Applications 1 12th: IB Analysis or IB Applications 2 (either HL or SL) OR 9th: Algebra 2 10th: IB Analysis or IB Applications 1 11th: AP Stats (if offered) 12th: IB Analysis or IB Applications 2 (either HL or SL) Depends if your school offers non-IB upper level courses. Some do, some don't. You can absolutely take IB year 2 as an 11th grader, but if you are a diploma candidate and it's an HL course the test must be taken your senior year. If you aren't a diploma candidate you can test any time.
or 10th-ib aa 1, 11th ap calc bc and 12th ib aa hl2
