After a heartbreaking rejection from a school thought to be a close match, and where DS was a double legacy, it’s become clear that DS needs to reconsider his options. Maybe take a gap year and reapply next year. Where are the A-/B+ students applying? Good kids with good stats, but not the brainiacs?
My A- student (3.93 weighted GPA) middle class white girl with an 1150 SAT (not submitted) applied to and was admitted to Penn State and Virginia Tech (deferred from ED there and offered for EA with 14k in aid). Waiting on JMU, Miami University in Ohio, Arizona State, CNU, GMU and SUNY Geneseo. She had like 9 APs, I think. Decent extracurriculars. Good supplementals for tech and she was highly active in initiating interaction with the admissions officer for her school, which probably signaled demonstrated interest. VT is leading candidate but will see what the others offer. Miami intrigues her because of a program that allows you to design your own major.
