When do most of the Blair magnet kids take the PE elective? I will admit that my DS is not the most athletic/coordinated, and I'm wondering how *rough* the PE class will be? His current middle school PE classes are very well compartmentalized and he is not self-conscious. But, I feel like high school, and Blair in particular, might be a bit tougher. What is the locker room situation? Do they have to use it to change for PE?
Former Blair magnet parent. DC took net sports and yoga and hasn't changed clothes for PE. Fortunately, yoga didn't involve a lot of exertion and net sports was last period, so BO wasn't too big of an issue. Magnet parents of older kids told me DC should take PE senior year so it wouldn't hurt their weighted GPA for colleges. It also can be a great way to take an easier class senioritis kicks in. DC took one PE class sophomore year when there weren't any other classes they wanted to take and one senior year. I think your child should take it when it best fits in their schedule.
Do any colleges really use the MCPS pre-calculated GPA? Most use the transcript and calculate their own value that excludes non-academic classes anyways.
I think that strategy is outdated. Competitive colleges nowadays calculate their own GPAs.
