OP, as you said there are so many choices, its probably better to narrow down to a specific area first.  Maybe you want to be close to a park, or a specific Tube stop/line, or want a neighborhood with specific food options, etc.  Another approach is to map out the places you most want to visit, and try and triangulate the optimal location to stay based on that.  It definitely helps doing it with Google Maps with the Tube map/public transit option on.[/quote]

Thanks, pretty much anywhere in central London seems like it would be fine.  I was looking at some options at Westminster, but open to surrounding areas as well.  PP who suggested the Conrad - that was one of the places I was looking at.  Seems like a good location right across from a Tube station.  Did you stay there recently?

We stayed at the Conrad a few years ago (2017 I think) and it was great.  It is directly across the street from the St James' Park Tube station, which makes it very easy to get anywhere, as that's on the District/Circle lines which run every 2-3 minutes and connects to every line within 2 or 3 stops.  The breakfast buffet was excellent and hopefully still free for Hilton Gold members (you should check, it's very easy to get Gold status with the mid-level Amex card with only $95 annual fee).  It's a sort of quiet mostly business district- nearby buildings are mostly offices oriented towards Westminster- as well as New Scotland Yard, police headquarters. So there aren't a lot of nice food options right there, but plenty are within a few Tube stops or 10 minute walk away.  A lot of the quick service places close on the weekends because it gets pretty quiet.[/quote]

+1 Stayed there in July and you can't beat the location or the breakfast buffet! The rooms are TINY but that is common in London. I would definitely stay there again, so easy to get everywhere and an easy walk to Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, and Big Ben.[/quote]
