My relative started 529 plans for my kids but won't tell me the amounts or the names of the accounts. They consider it part of their will and estate. They will give me the accounts after they pass away. Is there a way for me to log in and see the amounts? I know the accounts are under my kids' SSNs. I'm asking because this has come up in my work's financial disclosure forms. I'm supposed to list and report on these even though I'm not on the account.
If you're not the owner of the 529 plan, and you clearly aren't, then your financial disclosure forms shouldn't require this information. Remember, the owners can change the designated beneficiary at any time. Neither you, nor your kids, own those assets.
