We haven't received the scores either. This long wait is agonizing! What score will be a safe score to get, with no legacy admit, in order to have a good chance of admittance?
My oldest has straight As and a 98 HSPT. No legacies at a high school very big on legacies. Not recruited for sport. Younger sibling had a 93 HSPT. I found out that was higher than a lot of kids, but it also determines who gets put in Honors English. Math and Foreign language (Honors/Level) are determined by the tests the school administers in May the year before entry.
So, to where was your older child admitted? And did the child with the 93 get admitted to the same school? If so, their sibling is a factor (but it sounds like they are both high achievers...and would excel in a competitive school).
I truthfully think the younger one would have been admitted on his own (even w/out an older sibling) with 93 HPST and straight As in honors middle school. OF course, it certainly didn't hurt. There are some sibling cases where the younger one has lower scores and grades. Legacy is a big deal. I also think the 93 vs 98 was that my older kid took them before Covid. My younger one took them after the year of learning loss with virtual school most of the last year and half of middle school. He's a straight A Honors student Freshmen now who has adjusted very easily and gets the grades without stress while I keep hearing from other Freshmen parents how hard the school is and how much struggle their own kids are having. I also see that it has been easier for him than his older brother who had the higher HSPT score. Older brother is also a straight A student in Honors/APs and scored a perfect ACT with very little prep this Sept. of Jr year. A lot of schools want a holistic approach with a varied student body. I think legacy affords that because in most families, the kids aren't carbon copies and can vary greatly in ability/scores. If your school has a lot of legacy admits and your kid is not a recruited athlete and not a legacy, then they need to do the best they can. That's what I told my older one who had his heart set on this school and he really studied hard for the HSPT the summer before he took it.
