I try to think about what is necessary for the long run, so I don' think you overspent on a mattress. You don't have to buy the stuff from Pottery Barn if you don't want to. As for middle-ground, Pottery Barn is it. Most cheap bedding is polyester. Crate & Barrel is another option for cute kids bedding. I try to wait for that kind of stuff to go on sale. Check out Bed Bath & Beyond too. We bought a few nice sets of sheets from there.[/quote]
