Does your homeowner's policy have a sump pump rider? Basement losses due to water can be weird. Most policies won't cover the loss of your mechanical items such as the boiler, washer drier etc. due to that type of flooding. Flood insurance generally covers you for events like a creek or river that enters your home, I doubt they cover flooding due to a sump pump failure.
Yes. I’m told the limit is $5k and they are going to mail me a $5k check. But I also understand this may be covered by flood insurance.
You should look at your policy but I thought FEMA flood insurance required a certain acreage of flooding or a number of adjacent properties flooding to trigger.
The question is about which policy I should pursue a claim for. I am told both will cover it. I have flood insurance and home owners. I’m trying to figure out if one policy is a better option. My guess is that I should pursue flood so my home owners insurance doesn’t increase.
If you make a claim on your homeowners insurance, it will increase.
