Kind of wondering if AP Precalc is similar to AP ComSci Principals... where it is a course to gather students into that genre, but doesn't really have much substance or value. Seems to be a lot about modeling and seeing math in everyday life. Nothing about trig. https://apcentral.collegeboard.org/courses/ap-precalculus/about-ap-precalculus Quote: "Note: This course is not a prerequisite for and does not have to be followed by AP Calculus AB or BC." Yet, the FCPS description for AP Calc BC says that the prereq is "Precalculus with Trigonometry Honors or AP Precalculus or AP Calculus AB." Precalc/Trig Hns is no longer offered. The College Board says that AP Precalc is NOT a prerequisite for AP Calc BC (or AB). So, now, what is going to be the course that really prepares a student for AP Calc BC?
OK, kind of answering my own question here based on the links College Board is providing. AP Precalc DOES include trig. Looks like there are three units that are part of the final AP exam.... and then there is a FOURTH unit that is optional (at the discretion of the school/district). The fourth unit is not on the exam, but it obviously allows for teachers to go into more topics that would prepare one for Calc BC (rather than AB). So, I guess, on the whole, this new AP course could be beneficial in giving kids a full 1.0 gpa bump (and college credit -- for some majors that will be sufficient, and for others it won't matter), compared to the old "Trig Precalc Hns" (which only gave a 0.5 bump). I just skipped through this video and then actually watched the last 10 min. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxoSw0CDciY
