Well, since the Tea Party ran the opposition it really is about them.  The alternative was not new centrist candidate, was it?  Meanwhile Mourdock has been running for one office or another since his US House campaign in 1990.  22 years as a politician is not exactly a major change and the fact that he has lost as many races as he won does not really improve my opinion of him.[/quote]

The alternative may very well be a Democrat and that is fine with me, a Republican-leaning voter. The issue is Lugar, personally, and anyone who has been in office for as long as he has. Anyone is an improvement over the mindset that takes over a "career" in the Senate, both for the Senator and his/ her staff.

But don't feel sorry for Lugar. He'll walk into a cushy lobbying job and will never have to go back to Indiana again, a la Bob Dole.[/quote]
