Really only waist size matters - you get what you get when it comes to length. There will be boys on the field with pants puddled over their cleats and boys with cuffs three inches above their ankles. So I’d just order s/m/l/xl based on what size kid usually wears, waist wise.

My son is 16 and has been playing since he was 4. Turns out he doesn’t care about brand or fit so much as he cares about the texture of the waistband - he likes wide with elastic. He can’t even explain what it is he likes, and you never know till he tries them on if they have the right waist. Drives me bonkers. Good luck! Generally he’s been happy with Under Armor and Nike.[/quote]
