Are you planning to get a net with your set?  Or are you just looking for balls and paddles?  I ask b/c if you are planning to set up your own net, you will also need a way to mark the lines.  Having the "kitchen" line marked is essential.  Do you have a park with pickleball courts/nets nearby?  That is the best place to play.  Then just buy paddles and balls.

For paddles, I like the Paddletek Tempest Wave II (you can get a "used" version that looks dang-near brand new) at Pickleballcentral.com.  If you want to get something a little heavier (which creates more power), the Selkirk Amped Epic is a very good paddle for beginners.  If you can find a used version of either of these, I'd recommend that over any of the horrible cheap things that you see at Target, or even on the shelves at Dicks.  Don't waste your money.  You can buy both the Paddletek and Selkirk ones I mentioned brand new at Dicks (as well as others) on line.  But the stuff they have in the store is crap.  Same with anything that is sold as a "set" for $59 or whatever.
