Her little kiddie chair was just the right size so she could sit there. We didn’t have space or money to buy a sand table like you see at preschools. We covered it with the lid when not in use. She had some measuring spoons and cups and so forth, and a backscratcher could be a rake. Toss in some small plastic toys and you are set, once you add the play sand. Put it all on an old sheet to catch dropped sand and pour it back in.

For kids that can write a little and have some fine-motor control, save the junk mail envelopes and put them in a shoe box with Scotch tape and post-it notes that the kid can use at will. A tiny stapler if they can handle one, some stickers for stamps, some notepads, highlighters, and pencils and a funky eraser. They love to play mail and encourage them to write lists or leave you notes. It’s literacy practice that is fun. [/quote]
