Hi all, I searched the archives first, but have a slightly different question and am hoping the benevolent DCUM community will have a genius idea. My kindergarten son is turning 6 next week and we're planning his birthday party--he absolutely wants to invite the whole class, which is great. We typically are happy to have birthdays in our backyard or at the park with cake and maybe one activity. However, our son is struggling socially in his K class, and from what I've seen, I think he'll have a difficult time being successful in an unstructured party (e.g. just go play or bounce house). He did great, though, in a more structured setting (the awesome Glen Echo aquarium, which had activities and a little tour). So, I'm looking for an idea of something somewhat structured--either nearby upper NW DC, or at our home/in our yard. I saw the Gem Truck on an old thread, which looks perfect, but he's booked for ages. And we can't spend a ton--maybe $500, which rules out something like Great Zucchini (also great). And we're behind schedule so it needs to be the weekend of 11/13 or 11/20. I'm totally open to ideas--an awesome person that will come facilitate fun games or some activity, going somewhere close...maybe setting up activities ourselves if they're easy/affordable and don't require too much facilitating by me (though not screens). The kid has had a tough year generally, and I want to do something special and set him up to succeed. Many, many thanks in advance for any suggestions or referrals!
