Skilled and experienced teachers have ways to ensure kids listen (what we really mean is obey, but that word sounds creepy these days) without making it a big thing. E.g. teachers saying "gallop like a horse" or "march to the drums" to keep kids from running.

Also, regulations around outdoor time (strict ratios, mandates on sunscreen and hats/coats, etc.) mean that kids in daycare likely get less free outdoor play than they ideally should. I accept this as a tradeoff of daycare being more affordable than a nanny and a valuable socializing setting. But it is a sad fact of the ECE system in this country -- we make it hard for kids to go outside for long periods.[/quote]
