I think they have brand baggage that’s hard to shake – even though I recognize that they are perfectly nice cars. This GenXer associates them with older people – because that’s what my grandparents drove when I was a kid. I cannot bring myself to do the math that would confirm that they bought those “old people cars” around the age I am now. So Caddies aren’t even on my radar because, in my head, I’m not old.
+1 Fellow Gen X and agree. Caddies occupy the same space as Buicks in my mind. Maybe I’ll be inclined to buy one in about 20 years. :-)
As a Cadillac owner I totally disagree. I get my Caddie serviced in Bethesda. Surprising around 75 percent of customers are black. Many loaded. I met some really rich people. I only go oil changes or a tire and wait. I met a young black CEO buying a loaded Escalade and his Limo driver was with him in his other Cadillac. Dan Schneider who owns the Football team had one of his Cadillacs being serviced. The Escalades and V series are crazy expensive. And a lot of rich moms. I have my 20 year old daughter my Black CTS Cadillac when I got a new car. She likes it. Funny she drives all her friends around in it. The most important days in your life are in a Cadillac. Your wedding, your prom, your funeral all Cadillacs. And Escalades in Aspen Co I was shocked Billionaires all driving then.
