You’re supposed to go to a basement, which I assume the schools don’t have. Do they have a plan? Also, everyone in the building would need to stay there for 24-72 hours, and they’d need to somehow keep out the parents who run to the school to try to get kids out. Is there any plan or messaging, or are we just going to hope for the best?
The schools can't do anything about having no basements. Sheltering in place is the best option, and the exposure would depend on the individual school site (how big the windows are, areas that are interior, etc.). Schools have general shelter in place plans but nothing, AFAIK, in any local district that extends to the plan if we have to shelter for days at a time--most things I have read said a shelter in place order would likely last 24 hours, and schools do have bathrooms and cafeterias. This is a good question for central office and school board reps.
If windows are an issue TJ comes out ahead!
