I’m buying a used car off a relative to leave at my elderly parents’ home in Florida. They no longer drive and I go down there often. I assume I should insure and register the car down there, is that right? It’s just that I don’t live there so I am not sure if it would be easier to register in my home state of Maryland. If I call the insurance company I use for my car now, will they think it’s odd to have a car in a different state?
You have to insure and register the car in the state where it's driven. I went through this with another state and insurance-- the bottom line is that insurance rates are based on where the car is driven and insurance companies want the car registered in the same state as the insurance (at least mine did).
