If you read the teachers sub on Reddit they just want you to send your kid to school fed, clean, with a good night's sleep, and self-sufficient. They especially seem to frown on parents who supplement; I remember a thread where someone was asking about extra math and reading for kindergarten and the consensus was that getting your child too far ahead of the others makes their job harder so don't do it. They want you to teach them how to tie their shoelaces and zip their coats instead. At our public school they don't allow parent volunteers at all except at evening events so there is no contact with the teachers. They ask for Amazon wish list contributions.
Not in my experience. We keep getting notes in K telling us we need to teach dd to write her letters and numbers. We hadn't taught that because we figured she'd learn in school and we didn't want her to be bored. We'd already taught her to read.
