Why do people run for school board if they don't want to improve the schools for everyone? It is sad that teachers make so much more in neighboring school districts and that some of our schools are provisionally accredited. I am not impressed with the interim superintendent. Her response to the two West End PTA presidents was not sufficient.
For some it's a stepping stone to bigger things. Alderton and Greene clearly want to join Hutchings at his consulting firm. Booze running for reelection is part of a bigger campaign by the NEA to have their people on school boards (it's a total conflict of interest but its not like Alexandrians care about that kind of thing). I think Baird ran really wanting to improve the schools but she was sucked into "Greg" and the establishment in record time. She scrubbed her campaign website of anything about transparency or communication within a few months of taking office. Others here have posted that Ignacio is settling scores and just likes power. Reif is just weak - she said one or two things during the school closures but overall was/is a mouse. Elnoubi talked a good game when Hutchings tried to control SB members talking to the press (and by extension constituents) but he is still following Hutchings' directive. The interim superintendent (who will likely be the new superintendent) is Hutchings pick. Between that and this board that were all totally enamored of him - don't expect any change.
Baird also has an equity consulting firm.
