DC1 told her sibling that the boyfriend broke up with her (as opposed to a mutual break-up or DC1 breaking up with him)

Okay it's evening so I did try and FaceTime, then when I got no response, sent her a text saying:
 
"Hi honey!  Tried to FT you. We don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to—Just wanted to say hi, give you a virtual hug if you want one. Know that you are loved, sweetie"

So my real question is, is this typical?  If she were at home, I'd be hearing all about it, so it feels weird not to hear anything (weird, but refreshing at the same time).  I'm okay if she is handling this herself, but want to make sure I'm not missing something here that I should be doing.[/quote]
