And poodle mixes are generally very smart. Each time he nips, I'd say "ouch" loudly, pull my hand away and say "No biting, Barkley!" and then hand him one of his toys. Never a new toy, because you don't want to imply a present for bad behavior. Just "if you want to nip, here's what you can hip on."
