I used to have an Outback and now have a CX-5. The turbo Outback was my top choice, but the cost put it out of reach, and the turbo engine (in my prior experience) had far more maintenance issues. So, I opted for the CX-5. The biggest difference, as others noted, is space. Much less space in the back seat. The trunk isn't as roomy, but it's met our needs with all the kid stuff - can fit in everything we need for a week at the beach, for example.
Consumer Reports points out that the Mazda CX-5 has partially blocked visibility in the rear & on the sides. Do you agree ? I think that Subaru Outback turbo engine no longer has any issues. But this family needs more headroom for a 6'3" driver. Chevrolet Traverse or Honda Pilot.
