This is not actually true. Scientists didn't really become aware of acid rain until the early 1970s; programs to address it didn't get fully implemented until the 1990s. Meanwhile, the first major international report on climate change, which said the planet had been warming and likely would continue to warm, came out in 1990.

It's true that "global warming didn't really become a thing" for most people's public awareness until after acid rain was dealt with, but that's mostly a question of media coverage and broader societal focus on the problems. The climate was already changing by the time we even realized acid rain existed. And because of the exponential nature of climate change, it's gotten worse in the years since the 1990s, but not mostly because we curbed sulfur dioxide emissions in the name of keeping the air clean enough that rainfall doesn't damage water quality and kill plants and animals.[/quote]
