When my school closed because the temps were in the mid 20’s at bus pickup, I gave up. We have raised a nation of wimps.
Can we stop with this? My kid was in an old dorm at UVA before they put in AC. She used to do dorm tours during Days on the Lawn. I remember her telling me that the parents always complained about Old Dorms, especially after seeing the new ones, and scoffed saying their kid would never live there. But the kids living in Old Dorms LOVED IT and my daughter was always so annoyed. The kids do not care. Stop blaming them when it's the parents.
Exactly!! My own kid (I'm OP) selected a 120 yo house to live in for the last 2 years---no AC and not possible to add a window unit easily. My kid didn't care--we always say what matters most is "Who you live with not where you live". DC wanted to be with friends and found what to them was the "perfect" house. Despite the fact I would have paid for the fancy, double the price, newest apartments with AC, they didn't want that, as their friends could not afford that. If kid complains it's hot, tell them to go visit the library for a few hours, it will be cooler when they come back to dorm :-)
