OP here. We would fly into Punta Cana and would be staying in the Cap Cana area which says its "gated" whatever that means. We would not have any plans to leave the resort. I'm feeling conflicted based on things you head about DR and yet the absolutely glowing reviews this resort receives on Trip Advisor and that fact that it isn't cheap. And it appears to have a significant amount of repeat visitors. Its exactly what we've been looking for apart from the location. [/quote]

I would try it. The entire Punta Cana area was purpose built to attract and support tourism and then the Cap Cana area is closed off and the individual resorts are also limited access. I am not sure what things you have heard about the DR but chances are they are not at all applicable to a Cap Cana resort. [/quote]
