My Dad is very much the support through college formally and then you are on your own. I grew up in an UMC family, but he wanted us to cut the cord. This doesn't mean there has not been help along the way. When I moved into my first 1 bedroom apartment living alone and needed to furnish it my Mom came with me and paid 2-3k to get me everything I needed. Or if I visit my parents they are paying when we go out to dinner or do activities. They just really wanted my siblings and I to be self sufficient once we graduated.

I am happy with the way ti turned out. I think it is weird when you see married 35 year olds on their parents phone plan. I have absolutely 0 financial ties to my parents right now.[/quote]

Things are different now with regard to health insurance.  There were higher premiums if the children stayed on after losing full-time student status. Now, they can be on the parent's policy up until the 26th birthday, no penalties, even if they have their own full-time job with health benefits. [/quote]
