Stay with your respective clubs. Word was they offered their existing players a spot on the team. It was evident. 50-55 players out there last night, and none were Pride. 50x60=$3000 cash for 2.5 hours for a poorly organized tryout. When kids come off the field and say there were too many water breaks, it was like a practice, Capital was much more challenging and organized, and Stars was also better organized. Only heard of waitlisted for White so far. The black team was most likely pre-determined. Don't let your kids beat themselves up over this one. Not to mention the nasty video the coach sent to her players last week...
I've no idea on the specifics of Pride but having gone through various tryouts in numerous sports (boys and girls) and various entries on the team (newly formed age teams and existing teams) I can tell you about 99% of the time, coaches are looking at 3-4 spots at most to be filled out. The "stars" on the team are generally there for appearances sake. Does that seem unfair? Yes and no. Yes. If you want to argue it is unfair that someone has a spot locked up it is just reality of the situation. To beat out an existing decent player, your kid not only has to be as good as that player, but has to be extremely better. Coaches already know what they have with existing player X - work ethic, sports IQ, athleticism, etc. from coaching them for year(s). They don't know those things about tryout player Y. Thus, there is a level of comfort. Doesn't mean player Y can't make the team and beat our existing player X for spot only there aren't 20 spots open but 3-4. Even with those 3-4 spots the coaches might be looking for a specific type of player - maybe a middie, defender or what have you that shrinks your kid's options even further. But, it also not unfair either. The coach isn't going to spend a great deal of time evaluating players they already know are making the team (or not making it to be fair) but using them as markers for kids they might want. So the goal is to impress the coaches by doing well against the existing team players there. No matter the tryout, I've looked at them as a life building opportunity for my kids. They will need to compete for jobs, work, positions, etc when they get older and are working adults. This is just low stakes practice for them. If they don't make it, it is also a teaching moment about failure and what to learn from it. 55 bucks seems like a cheap way to learn these lessons to me. After you make it through tryouts and are on the team is when you can demonstrate your ability in a better setting than a tryout. Does that seem like a money grab. I guess. But, there is nothing forcing your kid to tryout for a new team or any team for that matter.
There were at leas 10 spots up or grabs last night on Pride Black with 13 of Nova Red making Capital Blue. So not a money grab and way more opportunity than you think.
EXACTLY!! Maybe get a realistic view of your DDs abilities and move on you are obviously delusional if she hasn't made any A teams and you keep trying to say it is everyone else's fault. Making excuses for them not making a team with these crazy ideas, and thinking they are better than they really are is doing them a disservice. I would not want someone like that on my daughter’s team nor that parent with me on the sidelines that is that out of touch with reality. Maybe try a different sport if this system is so rigged!
