*most should not take this class. No one needs to take this class in high school. This course is only appropriate for the most advanced students that are beyond calculus before college. For the vast majority, taking calculus in high school is more than sufficient.
You dont do Calculus unless in HL math
No. Most take BC calculus before they take the HL class in FCCPS.
if you do Algebra in 8th you can only take IB SL 1 and 2 in 11th and 12th, there is no time for Calculus. For Calculus you need three years : alg 2 in 9th, precal in 10th(ib hl1), cal in 11th and ib hl2 in 12th. How can you get the IB Diploma AND take a full year of calculus if you do Algebra in 8th grade? you canNOT.
My kid went to school there and took H Alg 2, IB SL AA 1, BC Calc then the HL class. You do not have to take SL 1 and 2. When your children get to high school you will see how there are different IB SL course options. My younger child does not have the same math interest and will take one of the less rigorous options, which may still include the other IB SL courses if he wants to try to earn the IB diploma.
