[/quote] My understanding is that you can't do the IB diploma unless you get ahead of grade level math. Most kids try to do that in middle school by skipping Math 6 or 7. I know many kids who are cramming to learn Math 7 this summer so they can take Math 8 when they start 7th grade in the fall. The message in FCCPS is that if you're at grade level for math in middle school, you're behind. I hate it, but that's the reality. We screwed up with our oldest and are now focusing on math for our younger kid so she doesn't end up "behind" and doing Math 6 as a 6th grader.... [/quote] Exactly, and additionally you cant take Calculus in HS unless you do Algebra either in 7th grade or take geometry over the summer or take two maths in one year.[/quote]
