This is a security risk. Anyone could show up and be given a child to take home if there's no recognition of parents or proper sign-out procedure. Perhaps a teacher inside would bring child out and verify parent, versus a general door greeter, but most daycares do recognize parents by sight to be sure a child goes home with the authorized individual.

Wonders in Chevy Chase is lovely! I often pass kids from Two Birds when they’re out on walks and I am consistently unimpressed with the caregivers in the tiny interactions I’ve observed. Most recently, one kid was crying and the caregiver said to a kid (who is guess was 2.5) “stop crying! You have no good reason to cry! You save that crying for later with your parents, we don’t want to see that here! You stop crying and keep walking!” Yikes!
Same. I overheard one of the door greeters ask a parent "who are you here to pick up?"
HaHa - I know the school responded - but what exactly is wrong with this? They are supposed to have everyone memorized or what?
I’m also confused by why this is so negative! Though the other post about this spot is clearly concerning.

Ah, I didn't realize there wasn't a proper sign out procedure or any checking of ID. My kids daycare recognizes me but there have been times we've had to have other people on my 'approved pickup list' get them. The staff obviously doesn't recognize them, but they do make sure to ID them and double check that they're on my approved pick up list. I don't have any issue with them asking "who are you here to pick up?" without knowing any further details of the situation, but yes, it's definitely a security risk if that's the extent of the exchange.
