My child will go back in one year to our local FCPS Middle School for seventh grade. She’s been doing accelerated math and was in FCPS AAP program so tracking with her peer group in already doing math one year ahead and loving it. However, in sixth grade in FCPS kids take Math SOL and Iowa Math Assessment to qualify for option to go ahead two years in accelerated math for seventh grade. How does that qualification work for when you aren’t in FCPS but will be returning to FCPS and know your child’s strength is math? Do kids from outside FCPS who were in private schools need to test or just tell counselor or get teacher recommendation on what placement they want? Thank you for your insights and guidance.
I don’t know for sure, but I can’t imagine your kid would be opted out of taking those tests and achieving the required scores. The 6th grade AAP kids all needed to do the tests and reach a minimum score.
