We used to have a country house in Sperryville. My favorite part of that area are the waterfall hiking trails in SNP that you can access from the bottom, besides Old Rag, there is White Oak Canyon and Cedar Run. Turn off Route 231 onto Etlan Road/Route 623, follow signs to parking lot in Weakley Hollow. The Cedar Run fork gets less publicity, but it has a couple of waterfalls you can swim in and a natural waterslide, but the first one is about three miles uphill (past the part where the trail crosses the stream, past the first big fall, second fall, go off trail on your right and cross at the top to the rocks where you can jump into a beautiful deep pool. Recommend It's About Thyme restaurant in old town Culpepper. There's also plenty of grocery stores and a Wal-Mart if you forgot anything, on the north side of town. There is an easy to access little dammed up waist deep swimming hole at the bottom of the lawn at Graves Mountain Lodge in Syria, also a natural public access swimming hole near Five Forks, Va at Rock Mills. Nice picnic stops. The Bleu Rock Inn has beautiful views and a little pub, but the service was glacial so we rarely went there. Jenkins Orchard on Route 621/Yancey Road near Woodville might be nice for an apple blossom photo stop, all the roads around there are very scenic. There was not much in the way of fine dining in Sperryville when we had our place there, but a few nice antique shops that are worth a visit, that may have changed.
