Riemer has no choice -- he's term-limited out of his current position, so of course he's going to run for CE. Also, if he took taxpayer campaign financing (I assume he did), he can't drop out or he has to pay it back. That's why the council candidate accused of sexual harrassment (Brandi) is still on the ballot -- she' can't afford to step down. Blair doesn't need the TPSS votes. Let Elrich scoop those up, and the rest of the county, which is modearate, can vote for Blair.
Great point about public financing forcing Riemer to stay in the race. Blair did fairly well in Silver Spring (less so downtown, but Silver Spring is a big place) last time and needs to do well there again. There’s a reason he’s the only candidate with an office in the eastern half of the county.
I’m in silver spring (also not downtown) and plan to vote for Blair. FWIW, the Riemer supporters I know don’t consider Blair a credible Dem so I’m not sure they would vote for him even if Reimer dropped out. They just seem to want a more YIMBY version of Elrich.
