Can people share what they’ve learned? I’ve heard only second hand that UMD uses your HS weighted GPA and does not recalculate. Can anyone confirm? I visited one slac where it sounded like they strip your gpa down to unweighted core academic classes (unless on an AP-type track for fine arts), and then add back in points for honors and AP-type classes. I’m not sure how they weigh them. My guess would be .5 for honors and 1 for AP and IB. I’m not sure for AP fine arts if they include all your art classes or just the advanced ones. Anyone know? What have you gleaned from AOs and info sessions?
I’ve never heard of a college that doesn’t recalculate, using a formula which reflects their priorities. Using a high school’s weighted gpa doesn’t make sense because high schools don’t all do it the same. They need a consistent weighting so they can compare kids on the same measure who are coming from different places.
