According to one anonymous student, Landon is oppressively liberal: https://www.mcgop.com/a_conservative_at_woke_left_landon. What are experiences of people on these boards?
This is an oxymoron
Why? This is the case in many liberal universities. My DC who had stats strong enough to be considered for many ivies decided not to apply because he didn't want to be "politically correct" in everything he wrote, said.
Can you give me an example of “political correctness” that is unacceptable to you? It’s been my experience that when people complain about “political correctness” it’s usually just about not wanting to extend someone respect or courtesy, even when you happily extend the same respect or courtesy to others. Not being able to argue or protest against abortion is oppression. Your friends being turned off by you doing so is not oppression. Being asked to use specific pronouns is not oppression. Not being allowed to make a good faith argument that non-binary genders are a social construct is oppression. Your friends being turned off by you doing so is not oppression. The op-ed OP linked only gives one example, which is a kid who left the water polo team rather than cover up his upper thigh MAGA tattoo. It’s an interesting question and I think I come down on the side of the kid, that he should have been allowed to play with his tattoo. But if you want me to believe that would be the “conservative” position if a Texas football player had a “trans rights” tattoo… Certainly taking the tattoo story and wrapping it in a bunch of whining and hysterics, as this kid did, suggests he’s not interested in arguing about principles and values at all. He just wants to make memes for the MAGAverse. But that’s not a good way to make friends and influence people IRL.
Sorry I just want to clarify that I don’t disagree with the water polo players that a MAGA tattoo is offensive and an aggression. And I think it’s perfectly reasonable for those players to raise that with their coach and this kid. I’m not saying he doesn’t have to defend the tattoo or that the team wouldn’t have to wrestle with how to be a team when one player has that tattoo. Just as I think the school probably shouldn’t be in the business of removing kids from teams because of tattoos, I would certainly support the other players protesting. It’s also possible that the coach just didn’t want the headache and that the policy is that the coach picks the roster, in which case the school’s hands would be tied. Conservatives are all about “at will” employment, right? Political opinion is not a protected class so I don’t think he would have a legal leg to stand on but I still think they shouldn’t have kicked him off the team. You don’t want to be in the position of determining the offensiveness of tattoos. The other question would be what the school dress code says about visible tattoos and how they interpreted that to apply to uniforms. If they have a visible tattoo rule that they feel applied, that would be firmer ground. To be clear I would oppose the visible tattoo rule too. I’m pretty liberal.
