Nope. Human traffic enforcement has been deemed racist so it's nothing but cameras now, issuing tickets that Maryland and Virginia drivers know they can throw in the trash without paying.
Why is that? Can't DC just boot the car the next time they're in DC?
Because DC's boot squad cannot possibly keep up: https://twitter.com/JWPascale/status/1460323482818985990?s=20&t=bvy0ClCNNKhDK1IdyFlGkg Until DC works something out with DC and Maryland, nothing will improve. Obviously those states have told Bowser to take a flying leap.
Then hire more boot squad people. Or empower all those private tow truck companies to make a bounty. So tired of crazy commuters racing through red lights and hitting pedestrians.
The argument is that traffic enforcement disproportionately hurts the poor and those in communities of color, and since you can’t only target the real or imagined rich with civil/criminal enforcement, there is no public or political support for traffic enforcement in this jurisdiction.
I call BS. I see plenty of fancy cars from VA racing through our neighborhood. If you can fly through our neighborhood in a souped up Mercedes, you can pay that speeding ticket. Also, here is a radical idea: Don't go 50 in a 25 mph residential zone!
The facts the OP laid out are that the person had thousands in unpaid traffic fines. DC Police did enforce the law. The court probably found him guilty in absentia and failed to take steps to collect it or suspend his license. It’s the court’s fault. He should be labeled a repeat offender. This is not the same as “DC not enforcing the law.” It’s the court. But why ruin a trash rant?
