In APS we switched to push in GT after having pull out GT and it was a complete travesty. In Middle and High school there seems to not be anything gifted at all. FCPS has the AAP which is ultimate pull out, but I’m not sure what happens in middle and high school? What do MCPS, HCPS, LCPS do for GT?
Level IV AAP continues until 8th grade. The students have a choice to take AAP classes in all the core subjects. For math the kids will either test into Algebra 1 H or will take Math 7 Honors. Kids can choose not to take the AAP classes and can take Honors classes or Gen Ed classes instead but if you choose AAP classes you have to take the three core classes as AAP. Depending on what parent you will talk to honors classes are pretty much the same as AAP classes or the AAP classes are more involved and demanding then honors classes. Most of the evidence provided is anecdotal. In High School, all kids have the choice to take Honors/AP/IB classes. There is no specific program for the AAP kids. That said, the AAP kids are likely to be ahead by a year or two in math because they skipped ahead in math in ES. HS who have more kids coming from MS AAP Centers tend to have more advanced math options for students because more of the kids coming to the high school are going to need those classes.
