My daughters hair is really prone to tangles too and we’ve tried various shampoos and conditioners that are specifically for detangling but none of them really work! We also have a satin pillow case that she sleeps on, use detangling spray, and the special hairbrushes you mentioned. Honestly we haven’t found anything that works yet. Sorry I have no recommendations but just wanted to commiserate I guess. I hope you get some helpful replies.
So the baby hair knot has just turned into this tangled dread. it just continues to grow a tangled mess. Sigh. I don’t know if I should just cut it off. It is probably about 10-15% of her hair. Because of covid, we have never actually taken her to a salon. We trimmed her hair once to even her hair when she was a toddler and I recently trimmed her hair. I think I did a pretty good job minus the fact that her hair is still tangled.
She needs a hair bonnet, or some other type of hair cover. These are par for the course in the AA community, but seems to be gaining traction in other cultures. Side note - I am AA, and used a satin pillowcase for YEARS to avoid snarling and tangling. I now cannot avoid tangles (regardless of how my hair is styled - braided, ponytail, etc) without covering my hair. You can detangle the knotted hair, but it will take some time (and maybe a few tries). Suave coconut is great for this - it has lots of "slip". Good luck!
