Ask CHDS how each of their field trips are tied to the curriculum.  From my experience, the field trip coordinator books basically every available Smithsonian space, local children's theatre's, and Kennedy Center programs with no rhyme or reason.  But don't take my word for it, ask them to name the last five field trips for 1st grade and how each one related to the curriculum.  There is about 1 field trip a week.  You can do the math.  I'd rather my child spend more time in the classroom.  Three or five field trips a year are plenty.

2. What about the living on The Hill vs off? Is there a social benefit to living on The Hill if your child is in CHDS?
Absolutely.  Don't believe the hype about NW or Bethesda families.

3. How competitive is admissions? Does anyone know actual numbers? 
Not very competitive.  They always have spots available after the regular season.

4. Do you have to get in at PK4? Are their any openings in Kindergarten? Are there other years of entry?
No. Yes. Yes.
