Are you a Porsche guy or gal? I’m sure this new Macan is nice. But I never quite understood the allure of these upscale super sporty SUV type cars. For example, you could buy a Toyota 4Runner and a used Porsche Boxster. Take the 4Runner in the snow and to off road trails and take the Boxster to Summit Point for some track time.
Some people want a multi-faceted vehicle, not multiple few-faceted vehicles. Sure, the Macan is less off-road capable than a 4-Runner, but it's more capable than a Boxster. It's less sporty than a Boxster, but it's more sporty than a 4 -Runner. For those that want a good blend, a vehicle like the Macan may be a great fit. I am not particularly fond of Porsche myself, but the Macan is definitely a leader in its class. If I was looking for a compact sporty SUV in that price range, it would be near the top of my list.
I understand your point and am the person to whom you responded. Full disclosure: I am a Porsche guy. Lots of times we are drawn to the “compromise” do it all option, only to find out later that we want specialization after all. Just offering the suggestion where you hop directly to the specialization. But as I said, I do take your point.
