I've had no luck finding one that is smart and savvy. All have been mediocre at best, basically doing what I have been doing with our investments for years on my own. Where are the good ones? Please suggest some names -- location is not an issue. One that is a value add. Thanks!
Most are. It's the 80-20 rule but in high-end professions like finance, medicine, law, etc. it's more like 90-10 or 95-5. It's the 5% (or 10%) that are exceptional (think brain surgeons, folks that only touch $25M+ portfolios, etc.). These are the guys that will actually manage your money out of a downturn and maximize your risk-adjusted return. The rest of them just outsource their "advice" to one of the 10%s and sell that to you as theirs. For the most part, you can learn what your advisor does and do it yourself.
